Ethics and Trust in Finance 8th Global Prize

Dr. Kara Tan Bhala, the Institute’s President, joins the eminent Jury of the Ethics and Trust in Finance 8th Global Prize. The Jury awards the Ethics in Finance Prize to the best creative papers with analyses and proposals for innovative ways to promote ethics and trust in finance. The Jury also allocates the prize money of US$20,000 among the winners. The competition spans the globe, has run since 2006, and produced a global network of former Prize winners.

The Prize is a project of the Observatoire de la Finance (Geneva), a non-profit foundation, working since 1996 on the relationship between the ethos of financial activities and its impact on society. The Observatoire aims to raise awareness of the need to pursue the common good through reconciling the good of persons, organizations, and community.

The mission of the Prize is to produce innovative ideas for promoting ethics and integrity in the finance sector. The Prize reaches out to young people to attract new ideas, proposals and projects in the banking, finance, and investment sectors, particularly in emerging markets. In turn, these ideas can be promoted to major players in the business community, with the hope of securing trust and integrity as foundations of quality management in banking and finance. Ultimately, the Prize should: (1) strengthen the sustainability of ethics in banking and finance and (2) promote greater awareness among the young throughout the world, of the benefits of ethics in finance

The 8th edition (2020-2021) of the Prize was officially launched on 2 June 2020. The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2021. The Prize is open to people under the age of 35 working in or studying finance. Register here for entry into the competition. All essays submitted to the Prize are assessed by the Jury, comprising academics and professional experts.

Past Prize winners actively work in business, government, NGOs and the academy. Their common interest in ethics and sustainability in finance provides a bond that endures beyond their participation in the competition. The nominees keep in contact through an international Alumni network which provides opportunities for meetings and exchanges, as well as a platform to engage in joint initiatives. The Prize Alumni network gathers together 73 professionals from 30 countries. Read past Prize-winning essays here.
