New Video: The Ethics of ESG Investing
SPI’s new video, “The Ethics of ESG Investing” is available on our YouTube Channel. The video is Episode 7 of SPI’s Ethics Training Video Series, Ethics in Finance is Good!
SPI’s Video on ESG Investing
ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance. ESG investing is the current gold boom of asset management. Investment managers are rushing into this sector as it’s one of the rare growing segments in an otherwise mature active management space. To make informed decisions, investors and the public need to know the shortcomings of funds that profess to invest in this sector as well as the problems faced in ESG investing in general. One question the video focuses on is whether ESG investing is ethical. Another question concerns how we measure ESG-ness. Who does the measuring? Can there be “no-sacrifice” ESG investing, where investors do not have to trade off profits for ethics? Discover the answers to these burning questions in the video.
World Values Day Panel Discussion
We premiered our video on October 15, 2020 as one of the events held on World Values Day. Our panel of experts discussed the issues raised by the video, including the question of whether ESG investing is actually ethical. Our distinguished panelists work in different areas of the finance industry. Chris is a practitioner, Josina is with the CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, and Ruth works on implementing values based ethics and compliance programs. The views of the panelist range widely and because of the broad perspectives, our discussion turned out to be engaging and illuminating. Our talk created further questions to answer in future panels.
